We are Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors with commercial experience between us and specialist knowledge of the Construction and Property industries – combine this with a serious passion for business, we are really able to help our clients – and yes, we really walk the talk.

While generic “business advice” and accounting helps solve the tax problems, it doesn’t equip you and your business with the tools and knowledge to grow.  Our experience and work within the property sector has given us great insight. We have seen those that have succeeded and those that have failed – from this we are able to consolidate these learnings and assist you.

This modern age has seen technology move at pace.  Success in business, whether financially or just freeing up your time, can be further assisted by embracing technology.  We have a thorough understanding of the processes a business like yours needs, so your business can work like a well-oiled machine.

The Team

Anthony McIlroy – Partner – Business Advisor

With a passion for business success, this is Anthony’s drive and focus.

As a regular advisor to the property industry, Anthony holds seminars and delivers talks on subject matters relevant to those industries.  Anthony has spoken throughout New Zealand as a guest speaker at the New Zealand Institute of Architects Annual Practice series about the changes in technology and compliance.

Working as an advisor to a number of Construction firms on the challenges that come with growth – maintaining order and profitability.  In addition to this, Anthony has also had a dedicated role as an accountant and business advisor to Property Investors and Developers.

Anthony has also been involved in the development of a start-up company focused on facilitating transactions in the property development market and was instrumental in the architecture of business operations and a licence from the Financial Market Authority to operate.

“Many people think of accountants as those that work out the tax, and yes this is a part of it but we enjoy a focus on matters closer to business success.  Something as simple as establishing a budget, others as challenging as succession planning, governance or leadership.”

When not looking at the numbers, Anthony can in fact be dabbling in a bit of construction himself,  found most weekends on the tools building, and while he’s not about to give up his day job, has developed a bit of a skill and some might say a love for building.

Sarah McIlroy – Partner – Business Advisor

As a Business Advisor and Chartered Accountant, Sarah brings over 15 years of experience to the table.  Wellington born and bred, Sarah made the move to study a Bachelor of Commerce in Canterbury followed by a Financial Accounting role in a large construction company.  This commercial experience was invaluable, giving Sarah specialist construction accounting knowledge and skills.  These skills were further complemented by a move into private practice, from where she was admitted into the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Sarah says “Business has always been my passion, I love the energy you get from meeting business owners – their commitment and drive, it’s inspiring.”  Sarah’s commercial experience has given her a practical “can do” attitude to solving problems “I like to step back from the problem and assess the big picture before stepping in and make the changes, it ultimately comes back to where the client wants to go, the business goals.”

Sarah lives out in Kumeu with husband and business sidekick, Anthony, and their two children.  With a love of the outdoors, and country life, Sarah is often found out at Muriwai walking the dog and tending to the garden and chooks.

Sarah and Anthony make a unique team.  “We both have the same philosophy in helping our clients, but each bring a set of very unique skills, which means we can deliver quality tailored advice to our clients.”

Teresa Long – Client Service Manager

With an eye for detail and an understanding of business, Teresa brings a unique set of skills to the team.  From a background working in Chartered Accounting practices and helping clients from various industries, to roles working in business in various Management positions (including real estate), this has given Teresa the edge understanding our clients’ needs.  Teresa believes these roles have provided her with the expertise to really listen and work with clients.

Based in Tauranga, Teresa is an integral part of the Evolve Accounting team and is a key driving force in ensuring as a team we are meeting our clients’ needs and expectations.

Teresa enjoys living in Tauranga with her family and long-haired Jack Russell called Lucy and two cats.  When not crunching the numbers, she enjoys taking regular walks up Mount Maunganui and is always keen to try something new and take on new hobbies.

Theo Duncan – Client Services Manager

As both a Chartered Accountant and a qualified Builder, Theo brings a unique background and experience to the team. Theo understands first-hand the challenges facing construction and trade businesses and really enjoys working with business owners to help them achieve their financial goals.

Theo was a full-time builder for 10 years, working on and then running jobs in Auckland and in New York City. This international experience broadened his skills and exposed him to more of the financial side of project management, developing a keen interest in how construction businesses can improve commercial performance.

Returning to New Zealand, Theo enrolled to study at the University of Auckland, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce and joining a Big 4 firm in Auckland. Theo held a number of progressively senior roles as well as becoming a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

When Theo isn’t at work, you’ll still find him engaged in building and property investment in his free time. It’s a real passion for him and it’s something he loves talking to clients about. “I speak your language; I’ve been on the tools and I’ve worked alongside trades most of my life. I’m a property investor myself. I want our small business clients to know we understand their business challenges and we’re here to be a partner to help them succeed.”

Theo lives on the North Shore with his wife. They love to travel and try to go somewhere new each year. Theo will give any sport a go (to varying degrees of success) but the current favourites are local social basketball and touch rugby.

Danjelle McKay – Accountant

Danjelle joined the team bringing with her expertise in various accounting roles. It all began with working within the commercial world of Super Motorcycles, to eventually working for chartered accounting firms over the past 10 years.

Moving back home to New Zealand after spending 12 years in the UK, Danjelle is a local, growing up in the west and now returning to her hometown. When not buried in books and finances, Danjelle enjoys spending time outside with her family doing various sporting activities. The kids keeping her busy, from Kumeu rugby, to horse riding and ice hockey, there’s never a dull moment.

Louise Lowney – Administrator

Louise brings with her many years of administration experience, having worked in both London and Auckland as a Personal Assistant, Finance Administrator, and Customer Service Coordinator.

Louise is a long-time resident of the North Shore, where she now lives with her Irish husband Ciaran, who is a souvenir from her OE in London and with their teenage son Sean.  When Louise is not decluttering or organising things at home, she can be found colouring in, dining out, or travelling.  Louise also has a keen interest in the property industry and loves looking at houses, much to the displeasure of her husband.

Charlie – Head of PR

Meet Charlie, from time to time you might be fortunate enough to bump into Charlie.  With an extensive background in public relations, Charlie is skilled in knowing how to support the team and boost morale.
